Phones is the middle of the 3 very pretty and private beats on Knockando Estate on the River Spey. 

A 3-rod beat, this is a very good [The best ] of the spring fishing, not only on Knockando but in this whole area. 

 

As with the other two beats at Knockando, This 3-rod beat offers fishing from both banks and is one of the most secluded beats on the entire river. 

 

Access is easy, with roads connecting each of the 4 named pools. 

 

The fishing hut is comfortable, warm, offers basic cooking facilities and a flushing W/C.

 

It has no full-time Ghillie, Either I or my assistant, Tom Brown take on this role when we have the fishing on this beat. 

 

Whether you opt for 3 or 6 days fishing, Phones provides a great chance of a Springer in the early part of the season, especially given good water levels. Fly fishermen will enjoy the lovely wide classic pools on middle to lower part of this beat and also the one pictured here in the background should the river be low. 

 

During my time ghillying here I often said to my guests, If I could fish this beat I'd fish it in the last week of March through to the end of May.
